For people who have been wondering where the rave of the moment, Ayodeji Balogun, aka, Wizkid got the kind of effrontery he displayed recently when he made the bold step of walking away from his very good friend and boss Banky W’s record label, Empire Mates, wonder no further as HS in this edition is here to reveal all that to you. Although it is generally believed that Wizkid has gathered enough money from the Pepsi endorsement he got coupled with the massive sales realized from his “Superstar” album as well as his many musical tours all over the world, the truth is that, all that is not enough for him to have terminated the smooth working and personal relationship he has enjoyed with Banky W and his other colleagues in Empire Mates.
Information made available to HS indicates that Wizzy, as Wizkid likes to be addressed, started growing wings when he started moving around with Olamiju Alao Akala, the son of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, the immediate-past governor of Oyo State. So close is their relationship that if they don’t see in one day, they must speak with each other unfailingly on phone. Sometime around last year when Wizzy was said to have complained to Olamiju about some unfavourable conditions he’s coping with at Empire Mates, Olamiju was said to have encouraged him to show his grievances to Banky and if he fails to make amends, he should move on with his career.
When it became obvious that Banky wasnot paying attention to Wizkid’s grievances, he informed Olamiju and other close associates of his that he was fed up and it was time to move on. It was at that point the he and Olamiju struck a record label deal. Olamiju was said to have sunk millions of naira into the record label deal although he prefers to operate from the background in order to avoid being noticed because of his father’s status in the society. It was agreed that Wizkid would be the front for the record label while Olamiju, the highest stakeholder will be operating from the background. The source that divulged this information concluded that very soon, Starboy Records will be unveiling a lot of things in a bid to give Empire Mates a run for their money.
