Adeleke’s APC Defection Talks In Trouble Water

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State is reportedly negotiating with top All Progressives Congress (APC) politicians to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This comes amid speculation about Adeleke’s potential switch, especially after two Osun State senators defected from the PDP to the APC recently. Sources describe the senators’ move as not being part of an “advance party” for the governor.

However, negotiations between Adeleke’s team and some top APC officials have hit a snag. Osun APC members are reportedly against allowing the governor to join their party. APC chieftain Mr. Remi Omowaiye stated that while Adeleke has the right to join the APC, he should follow proper channels rather than announcing via social media. Omowaiye expressed concerns about Adeleke’s “baggage” including sacking workers and building sub-standard infrastructure.

A PDP chieftain, speaking anonymously, said Adeleke’s camp is progressing with negotiations, lamenting the reluctance of the Osun APC camp led by Minister Adegboyega Oyetola to embrace talks. The source said Adeleke wants to ensure he gets the party ticket automatically due to his popularity and wants to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in A source close to the APC Secretariat in Abuja said Adeleke’s negotiation has stalled in Abuja, with the governor told to return for further talks. The source said the defection of Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi wasn’t connected to Adeleke’s plans. Only the APC’s national leadership, President, or Oyetola can give specific direction on the negotiation. The governor might remain in PDP for the 2026 governorship election unless the APC’s national leadership intervenes.
