Nollywood Actor Ogogo Is Dead
Veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died.
The news of his death was announced by his daughter, Kira, during an Instagram Live video on Sunday.
In the video, Kira was seen crying as she repeatedly appealed for help from her family.
She said, “Help me to call my sister, help me to call my family. My father is dead, I don’t believe them. I don’t belive. I want to go home”
The actor’s death comes days after his family made public appeals for medical assistance as he battled stage four cancer. His daughters, Kira and Lima, had appealed to hospitals, cancer specialists and other medical professionals to help with his treatment after the family was informed that chemotherapy could no longer be administered.
The development followed reports that Ogogo’s condition had deteriorated. On August 18, Lima dismissed earlier reports that her father had died, describing them as false.
The actor was later admitted to the operating theatre after Ogun West Senator Solomon Adeola facilitated medical assistance and reached out to cancer specialists on his behalf.
On Friday, colleagues and filmmakers in the Yoruba section of Nollywood gathered in Lagos for a prayer session for Ogogo. Actors including Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Fausat Balogun, popularly known as Madam Saje, Mr Latin, Rotimi Salami, Adewale Elesho and Antar Laniyan were among those who attended the session.
Ogogo, 66, was born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State. He began his acting career in 1981 and became known for his work in Yoruba language films. He also featured in films including Omo Ghetto, Aníkúlápó and Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre.
