The ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) initiative’s June 30 deadline will be extended, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This was declared yesterday during the Youth Vote Count concert at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja by INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
On the length of the extension, he remained silent.
In order to mobilize youths throughout the state for the ongoing national registration exercise, INEC organized the event in collaboration with the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) and YIAGA Africa.
Contrary to rumours, he asserted, permanent voter cards (PVCs) would start to be distributed in October 2022 for the current election.
“The youth are curious about the closing date for registration. On behalf of the commission, I want to reassure you that registration will continue after June 30 as long as there are still people trying to sign up.
When asked how long the extension would last, Yakubu responded that the commission had not yet decided on a timeline but would soon inform Nigerians about it.
