Investigations has revealed that the initial plan of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was to proceed with the Presidential and National Assembly Elections in some states as earlier planned while holding those of the remaining states in a subsequent date, but the insistence of the United States of America and other members of the international community frustrated the plan.

According to our findings, the decision at the meeting of INEC Chairman and 12 INEC Commissioners was for election to hold today in about 26 states while the remaining states will have theirs in a later date, but this decision was reversed at the meeting with international observers and other stakeholders during which the US representatives insisted on the presidential election holding simultaneously across the country.

Investigations further revealed that the alleged logistic problems the Electoral Commission had were contrived by forces within INEC and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to achieve their desired goal of adopting a strategy similar to what happened in the last governorship election in Osun State.

According to a source privy to the initial plan, “the strategy was to hold the election in 26 states, observe the outcome and if Atiku Abubakar is leading in those states, use the different security agencies to ensure President Muhammadu Buhari gets enough votes to cover up the margin in the remaining states.”
