The noise that comes with the governorship election in Ondo State is gradually subsidizing. While some people are still smirking from the pain inflicted on them by the defeat suffered in the electoral process others have since moved on, but one thing that most will find difficult to believe is the fact that the election had a more telling effect on the people of Lagos State than it ordinarily should have and this is attributed to the direct involvement of those who are controlling affairs in the state, most especially Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), who incidentally is the immediate past governor of Lagos State.

Tinubu who had a score to settle with the governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko over issues bothering on betrayal of trust, pulled all resources that was meant for Lagos State together to fight for the soul of Ondo State just to get a pound of flesh from the incumbent and eventual winner of the election. He was said to have initially taxed all chairmen of the 57 local government and local council development areas to the tune of N10 million each to support his mission to wrestle the Sunshine State from the governor and this we were reliably informed took the breaths out of the local government administration in the state.

As if that was not enough, he is alleged to have collected an amount from Lagos State coffers just to meet up with his targeted N10 billion, an amount he hoped would buy enough votes to install his person in Ondo State. In the process of doing all these he was able to succeeded in grounding the administration in the state just for his selfish interest. A visit to the Lagos State secretariat before the Ondo election showed the place was dry in the real sense of it as work by the state government was temporarily suspended until funds could be generated later. That apart, the local governments were still a shadow of their former selves as funds that would have been used to execute projects were channelled into the illegal trust of the party national leader.

In a similar vein, sources close to the former governor revealed he may be in the process of searching for replacement for three governors under the umbrella of the party over what he addressed as disloyalty to him. The governors we gathered have had enough of his overbearing attitude as to the way to run their respective states. The governors of Ekiti, Ogun and Oyo States, it was alleged,  were fed up of his attitude of forcing them to cough out money over issues that are not relevant and this they claim is affecting development in their respective states.

This it was alleged is another reason the burden of raising money for the Ondo election was rested solely on Lagos State as the other states particularly Ekiti believed that it was high time to concentrate more on developing his state rather than funding personal projects of a godfather, knowing that the people can reward him with a second term if they felt he really deserved it through the implementation of projects that will better the life of the people as this was evidenced in the loss Tinubu faced in Ondo State.

Global News reliably gathered that the once cordial relationship between the Tinubu-led ACN and the governor of Ogun State may have been dealt a blow due to the current crisis between the former governor of the state Olusegun Osoba and the current governor, Ibikunle Amosun over party leadership in the state and this we were informed has prompted the Jagaban, as Tinubu is fondly called, to start shopping for a new candidate, a thing we gathered is in favour of a young accountant who is presently representing a constituency in Lagos at the Federal House of Representatives after he had served at the Lagos State House of Assembly for many years.
