As the 2019 elections continue to gather momentum, the polity has been heated with accusations and counter-accusations from different political gladiators in the country, and former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) is not left out.

Since Jonathan left office in 2015, he seldom talks, but when he eventually does, his comments usually come with heavy punch lines, little wonder he says President Muhammadu Buhari has delivered more corruption to Nigerians than the much talked about change.

Jonathan fumed that “Whether it is Maina, the NNPC $25 billion scam, Babachir grass cutter scam, Amina Mohammed’s $300 million timber scandal, the ₦700 million ministry of mines and steel website, Buratai’s Dubai house, the Ikoyi billions, the budget padding scandal, the missing budget scandal, no paracetamol in State House Clinic scandal, the fact remains that the Buhari administration has delivered more corruption than change to the Nigerian people.”

The former President’s rage came after a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed that embattled Abdulrasheed Maina, former boss of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) is one of the legacies of Jonathan.

Reno Omokri, former Special Assistant on New Media to Jonathan, said in a statement that        “Abdulrasheed Maina was not recruited into the civil service during the PDP administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. That administration and the party met him already in the system.

“When his alleged thievery was discovered, it was the PDP administration of President Jonathan that dismissed Maina from the civil service and declared him wanted,” the statement said.

It added that rather than living up to its propagandized anti-corruption pretensions, the APC-led administration, through the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, wrote a memo to the Federal Civil Service Commission advising that Maina is reinstated and was subsequently reinstate and given double promotion.

“When the lid off the scandal was blown, the Maina family gave a press conference where they stated that their son was invited by the Muhammadu Buhari administration to help it deliver on its change agenda.

“It was also discovered that Abdulrasheed Maina had printed posters to contest to be the next Borno State Governor under the banner of the APC,” the statement further said.

More than two weeks after the Maina family’s press conference, the statement noted, the Buhari administration is yet to deny their assertions. It equally recalled that the Maina family threatened to ‘expose the cabal in the Presidency’ if they leave Maina and that the Northern politician, Dr. Junaid Mohammed revealed that Mr. Maina was moving about with armed security escorts.

In addition, the former President pointed out that President Muhammadu Buhari denied that he was aware of Mr. Maina’s reinstatement despite the Head of Service’s memo to him reminding him that she had warned against the move.

Rather than reward the Head of Service, noted the former President, the administration tried to bully through Mr. Abba Kyari, the President’s Chief of Staff, an episode caught on camera.

“How Maina can be a legacy of Jonathan and the PDP in view of the above indisputable facts? If at all anybody is a legacy of the PDP, that person is no other than Bolaji Abdullahi himself, who was brought to national limelight by the PDP administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan who gave him a ministerial position.”
