Along the Ogbomoso-Oyo route, suspected gunmen kidnapped the Bishop of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Rt Revd Oluwaseun Aderogba of Jebba diocese, and his wife on Sunday evening.
The Bishop and his wife were kidnapped while going from Yewa, Ogun state to Jebba, Kwara state en route to isolated location along the New Oyo/Ogbomoso road, according to sources.
“We were heading from Jebba to Oyo when our car suffered a defect while we were a few kilometers from Oyo,” stated Bishop’s chaplain, who was said to be traveling with the victims. My Lord Bishop requested assistance from Oyo’s Lord Bishop, Bishop Aladekugbe.
“However, before help arrived, three armed men surrounded them and ordered them into the jungle,” the Chaplain was alleged to have remarked, “I was happy I was not seen because of my black cassock I slid down on my belly to hide myself while they marched my bishop and wife deep into the forest.”
“Bishop Aladekugbe rose to the occasion, alerting the church’s leadership, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba and other members of the house of bishops.” It waited hours to hear from the abductors, who requested N50 million in ransom through the bishop’s wife, whom they permitted to speak with one of the bishops for a few seconds.
