AkpabioSenate 2015 hopeful and Akwa Ibom State governor Godswill Akpabio has been alleged to have spent up to 15 billion naira in renting a private jet for a 25-trip, 600-hour journey of service of approximately two hours. The governor hired the Canadian Challenger 604 from Swiss-based Vista Jet. Mr. Akpabio paid the sum to the jet charter company owned in part by Kola Aluko. Recall that your soar-away journal, Global News once wrote about Kola who is a very controversial businessman and a foremost oil baron. So, it is a big surprise that a man of Akpabio’s callibre who is seriously eyeing the senate seat come 2015 after his gubernatorial tenure could do business with Aluko. However, it was gathered that the charter jet used by the governor was registered in Switzerland as DE-INI. The governor and his entourage used the jet on trips within Nigeria and Europe within the said period. It was alleged that Akpabio spent close to $400,000 per day for the period of the jet charter, which started as far back as January 2010.

Akpabio allegedly later purchased a Bombardier jet for $45 million in 2012 with state’s fund. The governor also bought a bullet proof van from a US armoury company for $1 million. In 2012, his Vista jet made at least 900 trips within the Nigerian airspace using four jets that were making at least three landings per day. So, it is the big question is, where on earth is Akpabio going to for him to be junketing from one place to another using public funds?
