The FCT police commissioner, CP Sunday Babaji, has paid N15.9 million to the families of murdered officers who died in the line of duty.
While handing the cheques to the next of kin of the deceased officers at the police command headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, CP Babaji stated that the distribution was part of the force’s welfare insurance policy.
He stated that the insurance payments were distributed to the families of 29 deceased police officers from the ranks of Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), inspectors, sergeants, and civilian workers assigned to the command between 2020 and 2021.
While expressing his sympathies to the deceased’s beneficiaries, the police commissioner stated that the money presented was in no way a gift.
“It’s a method to show them that the force remembers their loved ones’ labor in life and death,” he explained.
As a result, he advised them to make effective use of the benefits in order to improve their lives in the absence of their benefactors.
While expressing gratitude to the force through the commissioner of police, one of the beneficiaries’ representatives vowed to utilize the token wisely.
He asked God to bless the command and the Nigeria Police Force.
