Nelson Achukwu, a former politician in Anambra State, was beheaded by gunmen after they demanded a N15 million ransom from his family.

In the House of Assembly, Achukwu previously served as a representative for the Nnewi South II district.

According to reports, the politician was abducted a few months ago.
The victim’s body was discovered between the boundary of the Uke and Ukpor towns, according to Anambra State Police Command spokesperson Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the heinous conduct.

He said Achukwu was kidnapped in his house on 9 June, 2022 and that efforts were being made to rescue him before this unfortunate development.

The PPRO added that the police were still not relenting on their investigation to bring to culprits to book.

After paying the N15 million ransom demanded by his kidnappers, a family source told SaharaReporters that they could not believe he would be killed.

The victim, who is the proprietor of the Nelly Oil & Gas filling station on Onuselogu Road in Utuh, had already been kidnapped and freed a few months earlier.

Later, it was reported that Achukwu told his family members that his captors had falsely accused him of giving information to the military but had been freed.

Achukwu was beheaded one month after Okechukwu Okoye, an elected official who represents Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s State Assembly district, was abducted and later discovered to have been beheaded.
