HOW BUHARI FRITTERED AWAY HIS WHOLE INTEGRITY
It is sad and worrying that the ruling All Progressive Congress under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari has woefully failed in its bid to effect the necessary change that will take Nigeria out of the woods and the little that remains of the integrity of President Muhammad Buhari himself is fast ebbing away with the way he is handling the affairs of the country.
The president who over the years have scored high in the area of integrity and sound moral uprightness especially when he tasted power briefly in the year 1983 through to 84 with no-nosense late General Tunde Idiagbon who was the then Chief of Staff Supreme Headquarters is now fast losing his hard-earned integrity due to his actions and inactions in recent times.
Not only is the President losing the grip on the country, Buhari is sadly seen to be losing the war against corruption and the Change mantra that formed the bedrock of his electioneering campaigns and his “second missionary journey” into the number one office in the country.
Amongst many other burning issues bedeveling the polity at this particular point in time is the issue of Fulani herdsmen who have been on the rampage immediately after Buhari assumed power in 2015. These Fulani herdsmen who just surfaced from nowhere have killed thousands of innocent Nigerians across the country and have further inflicted severe injuries on countless other people. At the last count, these herdsmen have killed more than five thousand people across the country. And they still do on a daily basis. The sad thing is that this administration and indeed Buhari is yet to make a definitive statement on how to stop the scourge.
Another thing that has called the integrity of Buhari to question is the issue of the Secretary to the Federal Government Babachir Lawal’s integrity issue which has tainted the moral fabric of President Buhari.Mr Babachir Lawal has been fingered in a shady deal which compromised his position.
The Senate had in December last year asked President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend Mr. Lawal and ensure his prosecution over alleged breach of Nigerian laws in handling contracts awarded by the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE).The Senate’s call followed the interim report of its ad-hoc committee on “mounting humanitarian crisis in the North East” led by Shehu Sani which indicted Mr. Lawal for receiving N200 million contract to clear “invasive plant species” in Yobe State through a company, Rholavision Nigeria Limited.
When the whole country was expecting Buhari to weigh in heavily on the matter, our no-nonsense Buhari came out weeks later to say the SGF has been cleared and has no case to answer. President Buhari is now seen to be shielding Babachir Lawal from prosecution and this is casting aspersions on his anti- corruption war and his (Buhari’s) personal integrity.
Global News also learnt that the presidency and the Board of Trustees of the ruling All Progressive Congress is seriously at war of words with Senator Sheu Sanni who is believed to be very angry with the presidency and the rank and file of the ruling All Progressive Congress because of the way the President and the party are handling the various thorny issues in the polity at this particular point in time.
